Prepare Healthy Baby Food by Preparing it Yourself at Home

Make sure your baby is provided with the best quality baby food by making it yourself. Any meal made at home presents an opportunity to make the most convenient and healthy baby food.

As dinner is prepared, pull out the ice cube trays. Before seasoning any of your food, put aside a small amount of whatever is cooked for baby. It may be a few extra carrots or a small cube of chicken. You may purchase a baby food grinder or use a fork, food processor, blender, or hand blender to process the food into a desirable texture. Spoon portions into the ice cube tray and freeze until firm. The frozen servings can now be transferred to a labeled freezer container for storage until you need it. As your baby matures, change consistency, try different combinations and introduce new foods to help their tastes mature.

Check with your physician to avoid food allergies or contraindications for specific children. Many pediatrician offices provide free feeding guidelines. Don’t be discouraged when your child does not like a particular food. Babies and children need multiple exposures to a new food before becoming accustomed to it, especially those foods not naturally sweet. The frozen servings are small enough to try again and again and they defrost quickly at room temperature.

You can feel confident that the baby food you have created on your own will save you money and will be healthy for your child. Additionally, you will have saved yourself time by making the food at home and know that you are helping the environment by reducing waste sent to the land-fill.
